Can be Reduced by Fasting 14 Hours a Day

More and more people are attempting intermittent fasting to lose weight.
Repeating a few days of eating and starving days may seem easy at first glance, but it's a tricky way to keep up with your daily routine, such as school or work.

Is there an easier way? US public broadcaster NPR introduced the fasting method for 14 hours a day. You eat 10 hours of 24 hours a day and starve 14 hours.

For example, if the first meal of the day was at 8:00 in the morning, the last meal would be at 6 in the evening, 10 hours later. After that, eat nothing until fasting, the next morning. Horses are fasting, but they are no different from regular eating.

The University of California (San Diego) researchers performed 19-hour fasting on 19 overweight participants and looked for changes in their body for three months.

The patients ate their normal diet and only limited their time to eat. Thanks to this, the amount of calories consumed was reduced by 8%.

According to the researchers, the effects of 14-hour fasting did not end with weight loss. Cholesterol levels and blood pressure have improved, and sleep quality has improved. Participants felt more energetic than before fasting.

"The body loses weight, especially visceral fat, because the body uses the fat it stores as an energy source," said Dr. Pam Taub, a cardiologist who participated in the study.

"In the fast, many organs involved in metabolism rest and recover and revive," he added.

Will it work if I relax my fasting time slightly more than 14 hours? Other studies have shown that 12-hour fasting also has a weight loss effect.

The study was limited to overweight subjects and limited to 19 participants. If the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) is conducting a large-scale study on fasting, more general interpretations and applications will be possible.
